Good history, bad format

I've read "The Winning of the West" before. Roosevelt's history is very good, but this edition of it stinks. Volume 1 was all right, but in volume 2 they changed the format and, instead of putting the footnotes at the end of the chapter as Roosevelt did, whatever idiot was responsible for this edition chose to stick them in brackets, right where they fell. Some of these notes are substantial paragraphs all by themselves, and to have one pop in the middle of a sentence makes reading an unpleasant task. I just ordered the remaining three volumes in hardback. I'm not taking any more chances with Kindle editions.
