Evil circles closer, threatening even those who survived the Holocaust.
It’s November 29, 1947. The streets of Jerusalem ring with celebration as the British Mandate of Palestine is carved into Arab and Jewish states. Politicians promise peace, but those who remember the prophecies know the truth.
When photojournalist Ellie Warne snaps pictures of some ancient scrolls, she unwittingly becomes the target of a sinister plan. Whom can she trust? David Meyer, a decorated American war pilot, who seems more comfortable among the stars than on earth with her? Or the scholarly Jew, Moshe Sachar, who hides from commitment behind his studies but says he loves her?
As everything she believes is challenged, Ellie must decide whether to risk her life—and her heart—for a people she has just met.

About the Author
Bodie Thoene is a writer about whom John Wayne once said, "She has that rare kind of talent that captures the people and the times!"
Born in Bakersfield, California, to a family of Irish and Jewish heritage, the fiery little redhead claimed from an early age she wanted to be a writer. Bodie's goal seemed impossible, however, when midway through grade school it was discovered that she had dyslexia, a learning disability that made it difficult for her to read. Her mother refused to accept that this was a problem they couldn't overcome, and together they worked with a young teacher until at last Bodie could read at grade level and above.
"Both my parents instilled their can-do outlook on life. Reading opened the world to me. I began to write stories of my own."
By the young age of fourteen, Bodie had a job as a stringer reporter for The California Newspaper. "They paid me fifty cents an inch for one article a week. The most I ever made was twelve dollars, but I felt rich!"
Bodie continued her college education as a Journalism-Political Science major in San Jose, California. She covered the Bay-area political unrest of the Vietnam era as an associate for U.S. News and World Report. Her career as a journalist seemed assured, but she says, "I thought to myself that there has to be more to life than writing about riots and peace marches."
Bodie married Brock Thoene during their sophomore year in college. They settled in Waco, Texas, where Brock attended Baylor University. It was here that Bodie began to write fiction out of the stories she gleaned from old Texas cowboys. The birth of their first child did not stop her from writing. "I held her with one arm and typed with the other!"
Publication of The Fall Guy catapulted Bodie into national attention and acclaim. Shortly after that she went to work for John Wayne's Batjac Productions and ABC Television as a writer and researcher, working with the top writers in the motion picture industry. Among those who work with her, she is known as one of the finest character and action writers in the business. Her work is currently featured in American West, Saturday Evening Post, and Smithsonian magazine, as well as other national publications.
Bodie's interest in Israel, which culminated in THE ZION CHRONICLES, stems from her days as a student. In 1978 she spoke to John Wayne about her hope to one day write a novel about the exciting events surrounding the rebirth of Israel. He encouraged her with his reply: "That's one you ought to do. It's the story of the Jewish Alamo!"
With the publication of the first book in THE ZION CHRONICLES The Gates of Zion she was awarded the Gold Medallion Book Award by the ECPA. size : 4.2 x 7.0

Realistic and yet, it's fiction...
By Laura Williams
The Gates of Zion is a wonderfully written book about one young lady's choices during post World War II, in the setting of Jerusalem. Throughout the book she must decide whether or not she wants to involve herself in politics that are much larger than the comfortable and sheltered world to which she has grown accustomed. Through her choices, she learns more about herself and those around her, including the two men between whose love she must decide.
This book is the first in a series titled The Zion Chronicles. Bodie Thoene wrote this series first and then later wrote a series to precede this called The Zion Covenant. I would rate the first series a full five stars. All were excellently written. I found them to be very well developed and descriptive. I found The Gates of Zion to be no exception to this style of writing. Bodie Thoene did a superb job of painting scenes for my imagination to witness. The level of description in all of her books creates a separate world through which I am able to watch her characters live their lives.
I rate this book at four stars solely based upon a fault of my own. Not being very well informed as to post WWII history, I found that this book, The Gates of Zion, was slightly more difficult to get into than those of the first series. It took me a while to get fully absorbed in it. However, once I started to understand a little better the events taking place, I could hardly put the book down.
I found the book to always have me wanting to know more. It was very exciting in the way that I was constantly being surprised. It was not a predictable book in the least. I had to read it to find out what the end results would be. If there was any guessing on my part it was only speculation as to what new twist the author was going to send my way next. I found this to keep me on my toes and kept my interest in the book. I just had to know what was going to happen, and therefore found it difficult to put away when my time would not allow for reading.
I also found this book to be inspirational. The faith in God the characters exhibit in their daily lives and when in the face of adversity is very encouraging. I know that this book is fiction, and yet the faith and trust they show in God is something that I believe anyone can obtain. It is not unrealistic in that the characters have a faith of which no one would be capable. It is presented in such a way that it makes you forget that the book is indeed fiction.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an exciting book. It has the ability to keep one on the edge of their seat wanting to know more. I know this was defenately the case for me.

If you like historical facts surrounded by romance and a decent story ...
By T. Sapp
If you like historical facts surrounded by romance and a decent story you will love this novel. A little too slow at times for me. Additionally it seems that sometimes the main character seems like she should be doing the stupid stuff they do in a horror movie instead of a historic novel. This is not great but it is good reading. In my opinion it would be better without much of the drama between the characters.
